What a fun day! It is so beautful here - colorful buildings, lots of green palm trees. The Buttons (area secretary) have taken us in and taken us shopping, etc. We drove around the area and wrote down phone numbers of apartments that have openings then went to see the East Mission President. He told us that he had something he would like us to do if the area presidency would let him use us so not to look for housing here. Tomorrow we meet with Elder Anderson who is a councelor in the Area Presidency then with all three members of the Area Presidency on Wednesday. Hopefully when we are through with all of the meetings we will know exactly what we are doing - but I doubt it!
We got new phones today with instructions in Spanish - so we have no idea how to use them. Elder Button says they are like blackberry phones-a lot of good that does us. However Scott has decided that he is going to learn how to use the phone so maybe we can get iinstructions from the internet in English.
Tonight we had a family home evening at the Temple President's home. There were four couples who are new so it was an introduction for us to the many couples who work here in the Dominican.
A few of the sisters have been teaching piano and have many ideas about what the needs here are.
I feel such a sense of calmne ss - unusual for me - because I know whatever it is that we were sent here to do we will be able to do with a lot of work and the Lord's help. It must be your prayers working!
They talked about the different kinds of bites they have had here. Very ineteresting information - not!
Ants, bedbugs, lice, etc...not to mention the deadly mosquito bites that take weeks or more to heal from. Chlorox is essential here. When you step in the shower it smells like a swimming pool. You do have to rinse all of your fruits and vegetables before you can eat them. Dad is upstairs reading his spanish Book of Mormon outloud. We can't get the internet up there so I am down in the lobby. He's probably asleep in his bunkbed by now! He's enjoying having his own bed but I just feel lost sleeping by myself in a strange place.
We have to get ready for the room to be fumigated tomorrow. I 'm not sure what that entails but they say it really stinks and you have to have every thing covered or out of the room so we'll have to find a place of refuge!
We hope all of you are well and happy at home. We love you so much!
